CONDEMNATION
The Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) hereby express our unequivocal condemnation of the heinous and barbaric murders of three Kuki village volunteers Thangkhokai Haokip (35), Jamkhogin Haokip (26), and Hollenson Baite (24) that occurred on 18 August in Thowai Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur. The shocking revelation that one of the victims’ bodies bore injury marks inflicted by a sharp knife, and that their bodies were mutilated, highlights a level of cruelty and inhumanity that defies all principles of human decency.
These reprehensible acts not only tear at the fabric of humanity but also serve as a brutal reminder of the persistent threats faced by tribal communities in Manipur, particularly the Kuki-Hmar-Zomi villages. The perpetuation of violence against these communities not only shatters lives but also undermines the foundational values of coexistence, respect, and unity.
In the wake of these horrifying incidents, we call upon the relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action. We demand the thorough investigation and apprehension of the culprits responsible for these senseless murders. Justice must be served, and the guilty parties must be held accountable for their despicable actions.
Furthermore, we urge the concerned authorities to reconsider and re-impose the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in all valley districts of Manipur. The security and safety of the people must take precedence, and the reinstatement of AFSPA could provide the necessary tools to counter the growing threats posed by such acts of violence. While we understand the complexities surrounding the application of AFSPA, we firmly believe that the safeguarding of innocent lives should be the utmost priority.
The constant attacks on the Kuki-Hmar-Zomi villages reveal a pattern of targeted violence that must be addressed immediately.
We stand united in our condemnation of the murder of our three Kuki village volunteers in Thowai Village.
