In addition, lack of rainfall or heavy rainfall on time is a cause of concern for farmers. In such a context, this newly developed variety will benefit the farmers by starting cultivation with very little water and producing 15-17 tons per bigha even after low rainfall.
This variety will be able to inspire hope among the farmers of many agricultural areas which are identified as drought-affected mainly due to lack of water.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Chetia, Chief Scientist, Assam Rice Research Institute, said that the use of this variety will change the attitude towards food production and agriculture at a time when population explosion and climate change are threatening food security.
Note that scientists at the Assam Agricultural University have developed 45 high-yielding varieties of paddy so far.
